The importance of listening to all sides
The success of any carnivore conservation management plan hinges on public stakeholders support which in turn depends on an understanding of the importance of large carnivores in relation to ecosystem health. In return, conservationists must understand the effects of rising large carnivore populations on human attitudes in addition to impacts on natural & managed ecosystems, the effects to human activities and changing human behaviours under predation conditions; and then use this knowledge to work towards alleviating the additional stresses involved in predator conservation situations. Participation of all stakeholders will enable the development and success of predator conservation programs that will better address the needs of all sides involved.
